Hey thats my fish review4/18/2023 ![]() ![]() There are various difficulty settings, sure. The problem with Hey! That's My Fish! on WiiWare, though, is that its core design is really all it has to offer. It's a fairly fun little design, and it's easy to see how it became pretty popular as a board game before the development of this digital edition. Penguins can only move in straight lines and can't jump or push past other penguins or holes in the ice - so, if you're good, you can wall off your enemy in a small area, eliminate their penguins by leaving them no legal moves to make, and then just casually waltz around the remaining area picking up all the leftover fish for yourself. Or you can be a bit more sinister, by going on the attack and trapping your opponents' penguins in corners and stranding them on small, broken-off sections of the board with no hope of getting back into the action. You can devise a couple of strategies, given those conditions - you can either try to quickly gather as many fish as you can, making an early rush to boost your score by going after the spaces worth the most points right away. The board, then, slowly shrinks piece by piece through the course of a round, and it becomes harder to move around for every player involved. The gimmick in the design is that any time a penguin moves off of an ice floe it's been standing on, it immediately sinks. If you look at the overall shape made by the hexagons, you'll see a fish. And you've got your penguins, who serve as the playing pieces that you'll move around the board to try to collect as many fish as you can before your opponents can do the same. You've got a fish token on each piece of ice, worth either one, two or three fish each. ![]() You've got a grid of ice floes set up on the screen, with each one shaped like a hexagon so the whole thing looks a bit like a beehive. Penguins & Friends: Hey! That's My Fish! is a simple, turn-based strategy design with an Antarctic theme. This latest addition to the digital shelves of the Wii Shop is a translation of the board game Hey! That's My Fish! - and while it doesn't quite have the name recognition of something like Connect Four or Yahtzee, this could be a step in the right direction. That hasn't been the case so far, unfortunately, but Penguins & Friends: Hey! That's My Fish! could help get the trend going on this end. So you'd think Nintendo's WiiWare would pick up on this trend, and would be home to more digital conversions of board game classics itself. ![]()
